About Ayurvedic Cloth

Turmeric

This multi-use ayurvedic knit cloth is 100% organic, soft yet durable and has the added bonus of turmeric infusion.

Turmeric imbues the skin with anti-oxidants and is known as ‘skin food’, as it protects against skin problems such as soreness and irritation.

In times past in India, fabric dyed in turmeric using buttermilk (known as Pomcha), was presented as a shawl to a mother at the delivery of her baby.
This was believed to impart anti-bacterial properties; hence the cloth was wrapped around mother and baby as a protection from germs.

Indigo

This multi-purpose pure ayurvedic knit cloth is 100% organic, soft yet durable and has the added bonus of indigo infusion.

Indigo (Indigofera Tintoria) has anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties, bringing relief from skin irritations.  It also stimulates the immune system and promotes calmness.

In ayurvedic terms, the throat chakra (Vishuddha in Sanskrit) is blue, making this indigo-infused cloth, an ideal scarf - perfect to balance the throat chakra.

Indian Madder

This multi-use pure ayurvedic knit cotton cloth is 100% organic, soft yet durable and has the added bonus of indigo infusion.

Indian Madder has a nourishing and soothing effect on the skin and is excellent
for skin problems.  Madder has a cooling effect and so infused fabrics were used in India as head cloths for those working long hours in the sun e.g. fishermen.
Excellent for calming skin irritations and Indian madder is especially associated
with women's health.

Care of your cloth

Wash the cloth separately at 30 degrees, using a gentle cleanser such as Ecover.
Do not use fabric conditioner, and dry in the shade if drying outdoors.
The longevity of the colour depends on the maintenance of the fabric.
The properties remain active in the fabric for as long as the colour remains.

Due to the nature of the hand-made process, there will be slight inconsistencies in the colour, texture and finish of the fabric.  This is normal and adds to its authenticity.
