Ayurvedic Yoga Mat
About the Ayurvedic Yoga Mat
The dyeing process uses only plant and herb ayurvedic concoctions, mainly turmeric, tulsi and vetiver, along with 20 others.
No chemicals are used in any of the processes. Good grip on the surface of the mat is achieved from the unique woven pattern of the cotton and jute together with ‘ribs’ on the hands and feet area. Underneath the mat, the uniquely woven design with tiny air pockets, is handbrushed with a fully natural rubber solution for maximum grip. Turmeric – “......is effective for cleansing the chakras (nadi-shodhana) and purifying the channels of the subtle body. It helps stretch the ligaments and is therefore good for the practice of hatha yoga” – The Yoga of Herbs, David Frawley & Dr Vasant Lad. Turmeric gives the mat its lovely yellow hue. Vetiver – has cooling properties, as well as, with tulsi, giving the mat its darker colour. Tulsi – ‘ the incomparable one’, fights against allergies and toxins. Also - the 'nectar of life'. The folk traditions of India recognise the powerful therapeutic potential of basil, particularly for the common cold, skin and fungal infections and indigestion, and as such is often worshipped daily as part of a household’s ritual. |
